Ausiello: I chatted up Sara Ramirez at the SAGs and she hinted that Callie might not be in a rush to jump back into another steady relationship post-George. "I think it's an interesting concept, Callie being alone again. It's a universal issue that women deal with a lot. 'What do I do when I'm alone?' 'Is it OK to be alone and not have a man?' I think it's an interesting thing to explore. But, you know, it's Grey's Anatomy. And we love our hookups and one-night stands. I'm all for her finding love in all the wrong places all over again. Maybe there's more than one? She should play the field a little."

Question: I loved the last original Grey's Anatomy episode — especially the Alex-Izzie moments. Have you heard any scoop about them getting together next season? — Katie
Ausiello: I have not, but Justin Chambers had some very interesting things to say about that very subject at the SAG Awards. "I think Alex has a deep longing for her," he told me. "He's just not man enough to admit it. He's got a lot of issues to work out. Hopefully he'll get secure enough with them."

Question: Alex and Izzie literally make me puke. They have as much chemistry as Bea Arthur and Tom Cruise.— Marie-Eve

Grey's finally gives Cristina a storyline. Grey's Anatomy may have run out of original episodes last Thursday but luckily the spoilers don't end there. No siree. According to my Grey's mole, the next episode, which was in the process of being written when the strike began, will thrust Cristina into 2 major storylines. One of them I already told you about a romance between her and Joshua Jackson's doctor character. The other I didn't and that's because I just found out myself. I'm hearing that Dr. Yang will be the one to help Meredith get over her split with Derek. A breakup that, my mole insists, will stick for awhile, at least until the conclusion of the Derek/Rose arc.

Question: You mentioned a while back that George's mom was returning to Grey's Anatomy. Did the strike push that back? — Marie
Ausiello: That's what I'm hearing. According to my Seattle Grace mole, Mama O'Malley's return — originally slated for November sweeps — was delayed until Episode 11, aka the show's final pre-strike episode. That probably explains why George had little to do during the just-wrapped two-parter. Why'd they move her out of sweeps? Well, per my spy, when it became clear that eppy 11 might be the final hour of Grey's we get in a long time, the script underwent "massive rewrites" to ramp up the drama and add several cliff-hangers — one of which involves George's old lady. "They're pretty big bombshells," says the source. "Basically, everyone's futures are left up in the air." Well, not everyone's. As I reported in this week's Ausiello Report vodcast, by the end of the episode there will be little doubt which direction the Mer/Derek/Rose triangle is headed in.

Question: Earlier this season, you teased that someone's getting divorced on Grey's Anatomy, and it's not who we'd expect. After reading your Bailey/narration spoiler, it has me thinking that it's her. — Lauren
Ausiello: I can neither confirm nor deny that Bailey will be getting a divorce this season on Grey's Anatomy.

Thomas in Idaho: The last two episodes of Grey's were fantastic. I think I'm liking this show again! Is the rest of the season any good?
I've actually heard the next episode (the last of this season if the strike doesn't go away) is the best one yet. It is Bailey-centric, and Chandra Wilson narrates it, all because something awful happens to someone she loves very much. Prepare to cry and howl. And yes, it is related to her home life and that marital ickiness that has been rearing its ugly head of late.

Jen in Jefferson City, Missouri: Wasn't Grey's supposed to be a new ep last week? What happened?
It's called rationing, my dear. The TV drought, it's a-comin'! There are only two episodes left of Grey's, and ABC decided to air the last one in '08, so we got a rerun last week. This week is called "Crash into Me," and we get to see what happens to all the characters whose lives were left hanging in the balance. As I mentioned, there's a kiss coming, thanks to Nurse Rose saving the day. And as for Seth Green's character and Lexie, well, let's just say the whole thing smacks of Meredith and bomb-squad guy (aka Coach Taylor)…not to mention Denny and Izzie, and there are so rarely happy endings on this show!

Trudy in Manhattan: I want Alex with Lexie! Any hope?
Really? I thought you were all pulling for Alex and Ava? She's sticking around, at least for a while. But then again, Lexie (Chyler Leigh) is a series regular…and pretty adorable, no? Who do you want Alex to be with? Comment below!

Pietra in France: I actually really like Lauren Stamile on Grey's and hope that McThorny, as you call her, and McDreamy have lots of romance and babies together!
Well, then you'll be happy with the upcoming episodes. No babies, but they are definitely heading toward l'amour, mon cheri. I hear Rose/Lauren is sticking around until the last episode they shot before the strike—which is episode number 11—and she'll be an increasingly bigger part of the plot, as Derek calls on her to help save a surgery. For those of you rooting for Meredith and Derek, the good news is that this new McThorny romance is indeed a thorn in Mer's side—she just might realize how very badly she wants her own McDreamy ending. The bad news? According to my sources, she might realize that a little too late...(gulp.)

Lisa in Tulsa, Oklahoma: Is the writers strike going to interfere with Joshua Jackson's upcoming guest appearance on Grey's Anatomy?
And how. Josh is no longer scheduled to come on Grey's. Producers are hoping they can figure out another slot for him after the strike, but that's contingent on his schedule. I'm not saying I like Rose and McDreamy together (jury's still out, if you ask me), but I have to tell you that Lauren Stamile, who plays Thorny, is quite a lovely person—inside and out—so let's not go crazy with the hate, 'kay? That said, you'll have plenty of reason to put a fist through your TV in the next couple of episodes if you are not a fan of the McThorny pairing, 'cause, well, there's a little lip-on-lip action on the way! George's mom comes to the hospital to visit and bring baby clothes cause she thinks Callie and George are having trouble getting pregnant. but of course she runs into Izzie and she spills the beans about them having sex and George failing his inter test. Izzie runs off saying she is sorry. but Mrs. O'Malley is very upset! They are Catholic and they don't believe in divorce and they certainly don't believe in adultery. that's all i have on them.

Dr. Bailey is very busy with the hospital that she never has time to call back her husband tucker. when she finally does answer the phone she tells him she doesn't have time for him cause she is being paged to the ER and tucker tells her that he is the one paging her. she finds out that baby tuck has been taken in cause he was crushed by a bookcase. and has multiple rib fractures.

okay so here is the mer and der stuff its jumps from scene to scene.

Mer
Between yesterday and today, you had plans drawn up?

Der
Ive had the plans for months. Between yesterday and today, i decided to share them with you.

Mer
...Why?

Derek looks at her.

Der
so nothing's changed. everything is exactly the same as it was.

Mer
No, Its -- Its a lot.--Its a lot and its really fast and--

Der
I'm trying to take the next step.

Mer
Derek. there are about a hundred steps between where we are and our dream house. they'll be fun steps. they'll be sexy steps. and we'll try not to fall down them. together. okay?

Meredith kisses him quickly and walks away.

Nurses' station-- night

Derek approaches rose at the nurses' station.

Bailey(V.O.)
We want to know the reason, the secret, the answer at the back of the book.

Der
Do you want to have dinner with me tonight?

Rose looks up, surprised

Rose
I thought you weren't free.

Der
Turns out i am. And i want to go out with you tonight. do you want to go out with me?

Rose can see the conflict in his eyes, but cant resist saying....

Rose
That'd be nice.

And that's all i have for you guys. Oh and Erica tells mark that she wont do anything with him. cause the only way she can do her job is if she leaves who she is outside the doors of the hospital. and then she leaves with callie and mark asks them if they are going to Joe's so he can meet them. and Erica just tells him good night and they leave.

So can you guys believe it Derek asks that rose chick out!!! i hope they cut that part out cause that ending is gonna be it! that is the last script. that's how its gonna end!

Ausiello: His two-episode stint has already been shot and will air. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Joshua Jackson's arc, which has been delayed indefinitely. Bummer, too, since I just found out which Seattle Grace doc he was going to be paired with, and it's pretty much the last person I would've suspected. And trust me, that's a good thing. I probably shouldn't tell you who it is since the script isn't even written yet and, therefore is subject to change…. Oh, what the hell (Major spoiler alert): It's Cristina! That's right, Yang was/is supposed to rebound with Pacey!

You know I'm not one to toot my own horn, but given what just transpired on Grey's Anatomy, I believe a little toot's in order. Last July, shortly after Isaiah Washington received his pink slip, yours truly very publicly recommended Seattle Grace's on-again, off-again heart doc Erica Hahn (played to steely perfection by Brooke Smith) for the now-vacant position of top cardiothoracic surgeon. And sure enough, on last night's Grey's — three months since that high-profile endorsement ran in TV Guide magazine — the Chief offered Hahn the job. Cynics would say the idea of Hahn replacing Burke wasn't that much of a stretch considering, well, she'd subbed for him before. But cynics be damned, I'm taking the credit and no one's going to stop me! To be fair, a share of the props also belongs to Smith, who, after years of toiling as a Grey's guest star, will now finally become a full-fledged series regular. To commemorate the milestone, Smith sat down with me to discuss her promotion, offer a sneak peek at what lies ahead for Dr. Hahn, and answer the question on everyone's mind: Is she or isn't she?

Brooke Smith: Thanks!

You must've had an idea this was coming….
Smith: Honestly, I wasn't expecting it, [probably] because I didn't want to be disappointed if it didn't happen. I thought it was really cool when you [floated the idea], because I thought, "Wow, I didn't even think of that!" And literally a couple days after we spoke, they called.

Did they come right out and offer a full-time gig? Or were they just offering another guest spot?
Smith: No, it was, "Hey, can you come full-time?" Thank god. I couldn't handle any more dabbling. It's too much. [Mock anguish] I feel like I want someone to commit to me already!

What was your first reaction?
Smith: You know, we were kind of excited. [Laughs] I say "we" because my husband and I were like, "Wow, OK." We had just finished [renovating our apartment] in New York, and put down a deposit on school for our little girl. But, aside from that, we just said, "All right, I guess we're moving to L.A. for a little while." But we're going back to New York at the end of this.

Do you like that Dr. Hahn is a little bit of an antagonist?
Smith: Yeah. I've heard people say [Dr. Hahn] is abrasive. [Laughs] Dr. Hahn is a workaholic and she's very professional and, you know, I think she feels that there should be professionalism at work, and when other people do things that aren't professional she gets a little upset.

And lord knows, there are a lot of people acting unprofessional at Seattle Grace.
Smith: There are! For god's sakes, c'mon, it's a hospital, people!

It's not a Motel 6.
Smith: Exactly! Lord.

Since you're sticking around, I guess it's safe to assume that they're going to delve a little more into Dr. Hahn's background… maybe give her a love interest?
Smith: I think so. Honestly, as of now, there's only a little hinting. I'm getting some suggestions….

Like what?
Smith: There might be a certain man there who's interested in me. But I don't know what Dr. Hahn will think of that. It's really interesting. I haven't worked like this before. We start shooting the next episode on Monday and I don't have a script yet. We'll get it tomorrow, and you just sort of read them out loud with everyone, and you're like, "Oh my god!" I know a little bit about her. And, certainly, I have a dialogue with the writers and I ask them questions and they sort of steer me down their same path. But I don't think anyone knows what's going to happen…. The other day I joked, "I know who I'm hooking up with!" There's this surgical nurse who's always there. When she's there I'm thrilled, because she always makes me feel very real — 'cause she's a real [surgical nurse]. I turned to her at one point and said, "Are you single on the show?" She doesn't even have a name on the show and I'm already trying to hook up with her.

I can see Dr. Hahn hitting it off with Cristina.
Smith: Secretly, we pushed for that. You know, Sandra [Oh] and I played lovers in [the off-Broadway play] Stop Kiss.

You know, there were rumors a while back that Cristina might be bisexual….
Smith: I know. I heard those rumors.

Then it's destined to happen!
Smith: That's what I think. But I don't know….

I think Dr. Hahn would make an awesome lesbian.
Smith: I think so, too.

Could it happen?
Smith: I honestly don't know. I've certainly let [the producers] know I'm open to it.

What was their reaction?
Smith: They were like, "OK, duly noted!" I think they wanted me to shut up already.

The fact is, Seattle Grace needs a gay character.
Smith: Well, hey, you called it that I [would be] on the show full-time, so….

Did the cast welcome you back with open arms?
Smith: They've been great. Everybody's great. It's very comfortable… which is weird. It feels like it shouldn't be, because it's such a big show.

And it hasn't always been the happiest place to work.
Smith: I guess that was last season. I haven't seen any of that. And I didn't see it the last time I was there. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm in some sort of bubble.

Any Grey's scoop you can give me before you go?
Smith: I heard Seth Green is coming.

Eh, that's old news. Are you going to be in scenes with him?
Smith: Not yet. But we're doing a two-parter now, so maybe in the second part. I'm not involved with him in the first part.

Who are you involved with in the first part?
Smith: I've been working with Dr. Sloane… Izzie… and Alex. And I finally got to work with Dr. Torres.

Well, this is exciting news — mostly because I predicted it.
Smith: I know. God knows what'll happen when I hang up [this time].

Shonda Rhimes is going to call and tell you that Dr. Hahn is gay.
Smith: Oh my god. Should I call you back if that happens?

You better!

Now that both Kate Walsh and Isaiah Washington have both left Grey's Anatomy to move on to other shows, Seattle Grace is down a couple of attending physicians. Never fear: Brooke Smith's Dr. Erica Hahn will be replacing Burke as the head of the cardiothoracic surgery department. Fans will remember Dr. Hahn as Burke's former medical school rival and no-nonsense surgeon from Mercy West who laid claim to the heart that eventually went to Denny Duquette.

Smith had just put down a deposit on school for their daughter and finished renovating their apartment in New York when she was offered the full-time gig by the Grey's Anatomy bigwigs. "All right, I guess we're moving to L.A. for a little while," she old Michael Ausiello of TV Guide.

The 40-year-old actress is excited about the role that she will be playing on the popular medical drama. Smith describes her character as being a workaholic and very professional. "And when other people do things that aren't professional she gets a little upset," she said.

When asked about whether her character would soon be getting a love interest on the show, she replied evasively that "there might be a certain man there's who's interested in me."

Responding to rumors about whether her character would become romantically involved with Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Smith said, "Secretly, we pushed for that. You know, Sandra and I played lovers in [the off-Broadway play] Stop Kiss." She did not confirm that either Dr. Hahn or Dr. Yang would be coming out of the closet anytime soon, but she did admit that Dr. Hahn would make an awesome lesbian.

Apart from Grey's Anatomy, Brooke Smith is also known for her recurring role on Weeds, playing Valerie Scottson, the ex-wife of Nancy Botwin's (Mary Louise Parker) former boyfriend Peter Scottson (Martin Donovan). She has also portrayed Dr. Kate Switzer on Crossing Jordan.

"Forever Young"...

Two teens stare at a doctor. He likes the attention and decides to go see them. His ego takes a beating when one of the ladies say he looks exactly like the other's father. Then, the two women start dreaming about another dreamy doctor who just arrived at the cafeteria. A teen gets injured by a piece of flying glass during a class at school and needs brain surgery. Another teen, who is the captain of a pom pon team, drops by the hospital with a broken coccyx and a fracture at the top of her femur. The teen will freak out because it'll take weeks before she is fully healed and, already, she is being replaced as captain and the replacement wants to change the routine.

This week, ABC came through with some big Grey's Anatomy news, giving us things to look forward to on upcoming episodes as well as some casting news involving two former teen stars. One of the things I'm most excited about was something I caught on a promo after last week's episode. On this Thursday's episode, "Haunt You Every Day", Alex is caught off guard when Ava (played by Elizabeth Reaser) returns to Seattle Grace. This is great news for Grey's fans who were left without a resolution to their storyline at the end of last season.

** SPOILERS AHEAD **

According to TV Guide today, former teen stars Joshua Jackson and Seth Green have signed multiple episode deals with Grey's Anatomy. Jackson, best known as Pacey on Dawson's Creek, will be playing a doctor and will start on this season's eleventh episode. Seth Green will play a Seattle Grace patient and said in an interview, "If you are going to get sick, Seattle Grace is the place to do it. Maybe they'll call me McSicky?" Green is known to his fans for his work in the Austin Powers movies, and more recently, Family Guy and Robot Chicken.

Last season, the male doctors took a trip into the mountains and did some fishing. This season, Dr. Webber calls on his fellow male coworkers to help take his mind off his failing marriage in the episode "Kung Fu Fighting", which airs November 1st. Cristina and Izzie also get competitive with one another while Meredith has her hands full with the victim of a skydiving accident.

On the November 8th episode, "Physical Attraction ... Chemical Reaction", the title of the show refers to George and Izzie's relationship or perhaps lack thereof. Callie finds herself in hot water after relying too much on Bailey, her number two, who really is running the show. Sloane falls for a fellow surgeon but who could it be? The episode will also feature a guest appearance from Prison Break's Rockmond Dunbar, who plays C-Note on the FOX drama.

With Ava returning, two great guest stars, and a slew of plot developments, it will be impossible for fans to stay away or miss an episode. There are still no spoilers regarding anything between Meredith and Lexie although their father (played by Jeff Perry) will be showing up in a few weeks. We'll be watching!

Green, who said that "Grey's" is one of his favorite shows, will play a patient on the hit medical drama.

Green recently wrapped the Disney/Tapestry Films feature "Old Dogs."

Green executive produces, directs, writes and does voices for Adult Swim's "Robot Chicken." He also voices Chris Griffin on Fox's "Family Guy."

"Crash into me"...

The Young Family - Jacob, the father has just had heart surgery and was released yesterday from the hospital. From the car crash, he now has a piece of metal embedded in his leg. Dr. Smith informs him that not only will he need surgery for that, but he will also need surgery for a post-operation infection that has hit the bone of the sternum and the tissue surrounding it. The family, most notably the youngest child Lucy, is truly upset (there are six children in the family, and there are sides for a few of them but not all. There also isn't a set of sides for his wife, Danielle). Lucy pulls on Dr. Smith's coat and she bends down to comfort the little girl. She her that the surgery will make her dad better, and then the little girl asks if she's coming back. Dr. Smith smiles at the little girl and tells her yes, that she isn't going anywhere. Dr. Smith also comforts Jacob when they are alone, as he is upset that his family, especially his children, have to go through the ordeal again of him being operated on. Dr. Smith assures him that all his children want is for him to get better, and he visibly relaxes.

Mary - She took a seizure while driving and seems to be the cause of the accident. It is implied from the sides that she is involved in the medical profession somehow, since she tells one of the doctors that its strange to be on the other side of this. She asks for her friend Shane while Dr. Jones attends to her broken arm, and she tells Mary that he is being seen by another doctor. The neurologist comes in and orders a CT scan. When he comes back with the results, he tells Mary that she has a tumor that they can remove easily, but where it is located is the problem. It seems that removing the tumor could cause her to lose her balance, and therefore impair her ability to do her job. While Mary is digesting this piece of information, she seizes again and the neurologist orders her head braced and for some other medical things (I'm not kidding, the sides say get "Medical!" and "Medical!" now) to be done STAT!

Nick - He has a huge neck tumor and is being seen by Dr. Moore. He is openly hitting on her, and tells her that he is definitely available since the girl he was seeing dumped him because of the tumor. He confides that he thought she was a nice girl diguised as a "vapid narcissist" but it turns out she was simply a vapid narcissist. Dr. Moore tells him that she can't date him - she's a doctor and he's a patient (and that stopped people in this hospital when?) He tells her that he won't be a patient too much longer, so she then tells him that she's kind of seeing someone who is a nice guy disguised as a jerk. Later on Dr. Moore returns, and she is visibly angry. She tells Nick that the guy she was kind of seeing was not a nice guy disguised as a jerk, he truly is a jerk! Nick then repeats his offer and Dr. Moore seriously considers it until he passes out and the alarms start going off.

Shane - From these sides we learn that some of the doctors have gone to the actual crash site since some of the victims need to be cut out of the car. Shane tells the doctors what happened at the site. He also complains of lower abdominal pain, but he refuses to let any of the female doctors examine him. Even though they are all hands on deck, and they warn him something could be seriously wrong, he refuses the help of a lady doctor.

Stan - He and his friend Rick (no sides for Rick) are trapped in the car and the medical personnel is losing a battle against time to get them. They are trying to talk the two through, but both men say that they aren't going to make it. They do manage to get them an IV line to administer fluids and pain medication, but it does not look too good for the two men.

Ausiello: Oh, Christine. My poor, sweet, naive Christine. You should know by now that those promos only tell half the story. Take it from someone who has seen the entire episode — that's me! — Gizzie is dealt a setback this Thursday when George chooses… um… let's just say he makes an important decision that sets the stage for Episode 3, "Let the Truth Sting." Keep in mind, Shonda strongly hinted that Gizzie wouldn't start to come undone until news of their fling made its way around Seattle Grace. I believe what you witnessed in last week's opener was the snuggle before the s**tstorm. Ausiello: Before she can get a new love interest, she has to purge the old one from her system. And she'll do just that this Thursday when Mama Burke drops by Seattle Grace to administer a dose of tough love. And Cristina isn't the only person she goes all Dr. Phil on. As I teased in this week's Ausiello Report vodcast, Diahann Carroll takes Meredith to task for the "selfish" and "inappropriate" thing she did in last May's season finale. And don't even think of asking me for a hint. You know full well what thing I'm referring to.

Question: I hear you've seen this week's Grey's. Please tell me it's better than the season premiere. Izzie tending to a deer? WTF? — Carol

Ausiello: OMG, I totally forgot to tell you the most important thing about Thursday's installment: It's fraktacular! If you were longing for the good ol' Grey's, I'm happy to tell you it makes a triumphant comeback tomorrow night. It had all the snap, crackle and pop of a Season 2 episode. And speaking of triumphs, Chandra Wilson gives a performance that has "2008 Emmy Reel" written all over it. I know it's early, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that supporting-actress trophy is hers to lose.
